From Biblical Times to Modern Healing: The Miraculous Power of Kaneh Bosm
Welcome back to the Roots to Riches podcast! I'm your host, Justin Benton, and today we're diving into one of my absolute favorite topics: the ancient and miraculous healing power of Kaneh Bosm, which translates to cannabis. This episode is packed with mind-blowing revelations and historical insights that could transform your understanding of natural healing and spirituality.
We kick off the episode by discussing the potential role of anointing oil in the miraculous healings performed by Jesus and his disciples. While the Gospels emphasize Jesus' healing through touch and command, it's likely that anointing oil, deeply rooted in Jewish traditions, played a significant role behind the scenes.
The main focus of this episode is on Kaneh Bosm, a term that means cannabis. This sacred ingredient was part of the holy anointing oil described in Exodus 30:22-25. God instructed Moses to create this oil using specific ingredients, including 250 shekels of cannabis, myrrh, cinnamon, and olive oil. This oil was used to consecrate priests, prophets, and kings, setting them apart for divine purposes.
We delve into the historical and biblical context of Kaneh Bosm, highlighting its use in ancient Hebrew traditions and its potential role in Jesus' healing missions. The theory that Kaneh Bosm was mistranslated as calamus in ancient texts is supported by archaeological findings and the research of scholars like Chris Bennett and Polish anthropologist Sula Benet.
I share my personal journey of discovering the healing power of raw cannabis, particularly in helping my son overcome severe autism. This leads to a broader discussion on the benefits of plant-based medicine and the shortcomings of the pharmaceutical industry. We touch on the recent appointment of Robert Kennedy Jr. as the Secretary of Health and Human Services, signaling a potential shift towards more natural and holistic health practices.
We explore various biblical references that support the use of anointing oil in healing practices. Passages from Mark 6:13 and James 5:14-15, among others, suggest that anointing with oil was a common practice in early Christianity, likely originating from Jesus' teachings.
I encourage listeners to do their own research on Kaneh Bosm and its historical significance. I express my desire to have this conversation with influential figures like the Pope and Joe Rogan to further spread awareness about the healing power of cannabis.

Justin Benton:
In connection to the miraculous healings of Jesus, while the Gospels emphasize Jesus' healing with touch and command, anointing oil may have played a role behind the scenes. Since Jesus operated within Jewish traditions, it is likely that he and his disciples used the sacred oil as a conduit for divine healing power. Conclusion. There is strong evidence that Jesus and his disciples used anointing oil in their healing missions, both from the Old Testament traditions and explicit gospel references. Welcome to Roots to Riches, where natural healing meets unstoppable success. Hi, I'm Justin Benton, your guide to unlocking ancient wisdom to boost your health and your wealth. Together, we'll explore these lost secrets that can transform our lives and the world around us. Let's get started. Welcome back to the Roots to Riches podcast. I'm your host, Justin Benton, and we are gonna talk about one of my favorite subjects. This subject, when I first came across it, absolutely blew my mind. I, too, heard it on a podcast many moons ago, which led me to a few books that Chris Bennett, who's been a previous guest on the Miracle Plant podcast, which is now Roots to Riches, His latest book, Cannabis the Lost Sacrament of the Ancient World, is what we're going to talk about. It's this word called Cannabossum. Cannabossum means cannabis. Unfortunately, when they translated Cannabossum, which was What came down actually in Hebrew tradition, it was the holy anointing oil in Exodus 30, chapters 22 to 25. God instructs Moses to create a sacred anointing oil using specific ingredients including cannabis, 250 shekels, which we estimate to be somewhere around six to seven pounds of cannabis, along with myrrh, cinnamon, and olive oil. This oil was used to consecrate priests, prophets, and kings, setting them apart for divine purposes. Jesus, as the Messiah, which means the anointed one, likely also would have continued this tradition. And for those of you that have heard, I've talked about this on previous episodes, but I haven't talked about it on the Roots to Riches podcast. So I was like, you know, this is literally one of my most favorite subjects to talk about just because it's so wild and mind-blowing, truly a game changer. when it comes to cannabis and cannabossum being used by not only the Hebrew high priests, the Pharisees, Sadducees, Kings, King David, but also by Jesus and the most famous man who ever walked this earth. And regardless of whatever religion, every religion that has ever been around, always has something to say about Jesus, and whether he was an awoke, an awakened teacher, which Hinduism believes, or Buddhism, and you can know that he, like I said, was the most known person of all time, to ever walk this earth. And the fact that he was obviously on these healing missions and healing the lame and the blind and the sick, and he was using oil. And so this oil, this holy anointing oil, which used 250 shekels of can of balsam, when it was actually talked about originally, When I first found this information from Chris Bennett on a podcast, the theory was first proposed by 1936 by Polish anthropologist Sula Benay, who argued Canubossum had been misidentified as Calamus in ancient texts. Chris Bennett supports this claim by highlighting archaeological findings from a 2,800-year-old temple site in Tel Arad, Jerusalem, where residues of cannabis were discovered on altars, indicating its ritual use among the ancient Hebrews. So, here's what happened. So, the anthropologist Sula Benay shows and proves, and Chris Bennett has written five books on this, shows that the Hebrew word cannabisum translates to cannabis. But when they translated Hebrew to Greek, which was the language of the academics back then, this was the Septuagint, which was actually 300 years before Jesus, they mistranslated the word cannabis, cannabisum, to mean calamus. which was this marshy like pussy willow plant. It didn't make sense as far as where it was grown, how they would have access to it, and the monetary value of 250 shekels. It didn't add up. So when you go back and you trace the original words, Cannabossum, from Exodus, that it was mistranslated. And so to me, that's the part that blows me away. So, we go from the Hebrew text, cannabis, cannabossum, switches from Hebrew to Greek in the Septuagint, which is the oldest Bible, and it says it's now calamus, which doesn't make any sense because it's, first of all, the translation cannabossum means fragrant cane, like an aromatic cane. is what it means. In fact, in my favorite show, The Chosen, in season four, episode one, they actually sell the holy anointing oil to the Pharisees, the high priests of the Jewish faith. And the Pharisees were like, well, it's just made in the law of Moses. And they actually say aromatic cane, that it had 250 shekels. And so to me, it was like, yeah. And again, it's just, to me, it's like we're in this new world, right? Robert Kennedy Jr. has been confirmed as the Secretary of Health and Human Services, overseeing the FDA, CDC, and the NIH. We all know the first word or words that come to mind when you think of big pharma are not good words, not positive words. And so there's a new sheriff in town, if you will, that we are looking at our health in a much different light now, and plant-based health remedies, such as cannabis and the miracle plant. For those that know my story, obviously I found the raw miracle plant, raw cannabis, raw cannabis and when I was looking for a miracle for my son and his severe autism diagnosis, which we overcame. Food and diet and lots and lots of raw cannabis, raw hemp, high in what's called CBDA or cannabidiolic acid. And so again, for me, it's like we have this new time, this new time that we're in now where we have the possibility to kind of go old school, like really old school, like 2,800 years ago, to get back to the basics, right? To get back to plant-based medicine, get back to food as our medicine. You are what you eat, hashtag plants over pills. So again, to me, I just love the conversation. I know my ultimate goal would be to have this conversation with the Pope. Right now we can say a prayer for Pope Francis. He's 88 years old. He's in the Vatican Hospital and he's fighting pneumonia. amongst some other things. And so my ultimate goal about talking about Cannabossum is to have a conversation with the Pope and explain to him that these findings, and the research, and the books, and Sula Benet's work, and Chris Bennett's work, And the work of even my local Catholic parish that I go to out here in Ventura, California, they're all using the Miracle Plant roll-ons and sublingual oils and even gummies now that we're coming out with. And I've seen incredible stories, whether it's Parkinson's or Alzheimer's or cancer, obviously autism, but just everyday pain, everyday stress. and a good night's sleep. We've seen miracle stories, miraculous stories with this miracle plant. So again, it's like one of my favorite topics to talk about just because it's just so revolutionary. You know, I mean, when I first, like I said, it was a podcast that I heard many moons ago, And when they were talking about it, and they were talking about Chris Bennett's book, I just was just like, wow. Like, think about where we are. Think about how, when I grew up in the 80s, 1980s, you know, it was just saying no, and that, you know, cannabis was a gateway drug and all these kinds of things. And here to come to find that cannabis was used in, you know, spiritual, in, you know, ancient, worlds not only for separating out kings and high priests, but also for medicine. And we have dating back 8,000 years in medical oriental journals using cannabis for its medicinal values. So again, this is just one of my absolute favorite topics. I haven't talked about it since we relaunched the podcast under Roots to Riches. And so I thought, how fun would it be to have this conversation. I also wanted to go a little deeper. Chris Bennett's research delves into the role of cannabis in various ancient cultures, noting its widespread uses in religious ceremonies by Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and Persians. It's also ancient Hebrews similarly incorporated cannabis into their religious practices, particularly in the preparation of holy anointing oils and incense. This challenges traditional interpretations of biblical texts and suggests a re-evaluation of the historical relationship between cannabis and spirituality." So again, like I said, we've been using cannabis in the old world, dating back 8,000 years to the Orient. And it's just such a fascinating conversation. So if you enjoy this conversation, you know, reach out, let us know, write a review for this podcast on it and read Chris Bennett's book. His latest one is Cannabis, The Lost Sacrament of the Ancient World, Chris Bennett. You can also listen to our podcast that we did together about a year or so ago. But also I wanted to talk about some biblical references to the anointing oil and how important the anointing oil was in Jesus's mission, especially for healing. So if you look at Mark 6 13, they drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them. This passage explicitly states that Jesus's disciples used anointing oil in their healing missions. This aligns with the Old Testament tradition of anointing as a sacred practice. In James 5 14 through 15, Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. This suggests the anointing with oil was a common healing practice in early Christianity, likely originating from Jesus' teachings. Also, the holy anointing oil of the Old Testament, like we discussed in Exodus 30, 22, 23, God instructs Moses to create a sacred holy anointing oil using specific ingredients, including the cannabis, myrrh, cinnamon, and olive oil. This oil was used to consecrate priests, prophets, and kings, setting them apart for divine purposes. Jesus as the Messiah, which means the Anointed One, would likely, obviously, have continued this tradition. Jesus as the Anointed One. Messiah in Hebrew and Christ in Greek both mean the Anointed One. Reinforcing the significance of anointing in Jesus' identity and mission, Luke 4, 18, quoting Isaiah 61, 1, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free. Again, suggesting Jesus saw his mission as one of the divine anointing, including the use of this sacred oil. Also, ancient Jewish and early Christian healing practices, Jewish traditions held the anointing oil was not only for religious consecration, but also for physical and spiritual healing. The Essenes, a Jewish sect around Jesus' time, believed by some to have influenced early Christianity, used herbal remedies and sacred oils in their healing rituals. Early Christians adopted anointing as part of their ministry as seen in James 5, 14-15, reinforcing the idea that Jesus and his disciples likely used it too. Connection to the miraculous healings of Jesus. While the gospels emphasize Jesus' healing with touch and command, anointing oil may have played a role behind the scenes. I like to talk about the Chosen, obviously they talk about… the concept that they sold the oil, the disciples, to the Pharisees, and historical and biblical context supports its use for healing, consecration, and spiritual empowerment. And again, I just think it's such a great topic, this idea to discuss cannabosum and the holy anointing oil as both a sacred and a practical tool in ancient times, linking cannabosum and cannabis to these historical religious practices. So there it is, my absolute top five favorite topics to talk about. Cannabossum, which is cannabis, which was used in biblical times, even during the times of Jesus when he walked this earth on his healing mission. And my point is, to have this discussion with the Pope, for you to have this discussion, and to think of this plant not as something to be demonized, but as something to be appreciated, to be used. Like, nobody's demonizing aloe vera, right? I mean, when you were out here in California, and you can crack open an aloe vera plant, and out comes the cream that you can put on your sunburn, and the sunburn goes away, right? Well, it's the same thing with cannabis. If you have freshly cold-pressed cannabis, and when you cold-press it, it kind of comes out, looks like a honey substance, and you rub that honey substance on your arm, if you have a sore shoulder, or knee, or back, or even a migraine, and you rub it on the temples, on the back of your neck, and the pain and the inflammation subsides naturally, without side effects. Think about that. The number one best pain reliever on the planet, bar none, is raw cannabis. And did you know that? Now, if you've listened to the podcast and you know me and you've tried our products, then yes, you probably knew that. But if not, that's pretty crazy. And so literally my mission is to reach a billion people by 2025, which is this year. And talk about cannabis. Talk about using it for pain relief, whether it's a topical, a sublingual oil, or even a gummy. Again, when you rub it on your skin, it can have immediate topical effects, whether it's for rashes, bug bites, cuts, scratches, pain. When you use it under the tongue and take it sublingually, it goes into your bloodstream, and they can obviously travel further and deeper. And into your brain, you have these things called CB1 receptors, which actually are set up to receive cannabinoids like cannabidilic acid, or what's called shortened for CBDA, which is the raw version of CBD the plant makes. And that's when you hear all these incredible stories like my son, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, it's a neuroregenerative. It has neuroregenerative properties, meaning it can actually recreate, it can produce new nerves. And that is when the miracles can start to happen with those neurological ailments. So, again, I just find it so fascinating. I just want to have a topic. I want to have an audience. I want to talk to people. I'd love to talk on Joe Rogan's podcast. I've reached out to him a couple times. He's very, very curious about Jesus. He's had lots of experts on. He's obviously a cannabis enthusiast. So I hope one day that I can have this conversation with Joe Rogan. I hope I can have this audience with the Pope and we can have this conversation. Because again, I believe we're at a time now where we're ready to go old school and to get back into plant-based medicine. You are what you eat. Your food is your medicine. Plants over pills. We're done with the pharmaceutical model. We're done with isolating one molecule out of a plant. and turning it into a white pill that you can mass produce and rubber stamp some FDA study so you can make billions upon billions of dollars. And we've seen what the pharmaceutical big pharma model produces. People are taking 14 pills a day. They're having side effects upon side effects. They're not getting any healthier. You know, they're in the constant state of dealing with side effects. And we've seen miracles, like I said, whether it's with my son or clients, when you eat right, when you eat good healthy foods, whole plant foods, like literally, you know, the old adage, like an apple a day keeps the doctor away. There's a reason why those cliches last forever, because it's true. We should all be eating fruits and vegetables, especially when you're not doing well. If you come down with a diagnosis, which if you look it up, Rockefeller started all of this. He started isolating these diseases so that you could put them in their own silos and start writing prescriptions And then they started teaching the doctors to do this. They started putting into the medical board exams. So we have completely been bamboozled for the last over a hundred years that medicine has turned into a way to profit off of people and to keep them in this constant state of taking pills where there can be, and these were all petroleum-based, oil-based pharmaceutical pills. Google it, Google it, go to your favorite AI like Jack GPT and just ask, ask about Rockefeller and how all this got started. And like I said, it's a new time, there's a new sheriff in town, we got RFK Jr., who's running the show as the Secretary of HHS in overseeing the FDA, CDC, NIH, so we can actually have real studies that are double-blind placebo that can be reproduced. that aren't being paid for by big pharma. And the FDA commissioner, Gottlieb, who was just on the news the other day, was literally sitting on Pfizer's board right now. It's like, come on, man. They're not even hiding it. It's so obvious. Because at the end of the day, like I said, plants, food, that's our medicine. And we're humans, we've got what's called an endocannabinoid system in our body, which is set up to receive cannabinoids like CBD and CVDA amongst the other hundred cannabinoids in this cannabis plant. Our own body makes cannabinoids in the form of what's called 2-AG. It's a really, really long word. So that's an endocannabinoid that our own bodies make. And if we get these if we get these cannabinoids through plants are called phyto cannabinoids, which is kinetic cannabinoid acid or cbda And and we can trace us and this plant evolving together for roughly 30 000 years so again And here we are talking about Cannabossum, talking about going old school, talking about the biggest healer that we've ever known, who's ever walked this earth was Jesus Christ. Christ meaning the anointed one. And he was anointed with an oil with Cannabossum that had cannabis in it. It was a part of his becoming the anointed one, the Messiah. It was also a part of his healing mission when he was out healing others and his disciples were healing others. And it started with the first Pope, which was St. Peter. Now we have St. Francis, who we're praying for, that it gets better. And I just want to have this conversation. I want to stimulate this conversation. I encourage you to do your own research, to look up these facts, to go ahead and do the research, read what Cannabis means, look at these books, look up Sula B'nai, and discover for yourself these facts and the things that resonate with you. And what do you trust more? A plant that we've been using for medicine dating back 8,000 years or some cooked up white powder, you know, stock traded pharmaceutical pills that people make trillions of dollars off of keeping us sick with side effects that have, you know, killed people and had people with horrible side effects. If you just listen to the news, And it's like, hey, do you have a rash? Well, take this pill and it may kill you or cause cancer. It's like, no, I'll just keep the rash or just go get some raw, renew one of our topicals that will help with the eczema and psoriasis. Natural plant based, no chemicals, no pesticides. I don't know. I'm excited. It's a new world. It was very emotional for me to see Robert Kennedy Jr. get nominated and accepted and confirmed into the Secretary of HHS. Such a great guy. I'm looking at my hat right here. Make America healthy again the green hat so I have hope I have optimism. I hope this conversation Sparks some interest in you that you can go and do some of your own research If you if you have connections to Joe Rogan or the Pope, I'd love to talk to him. I'd love to have this conversation Maybe we can even get Chris Bennett to come back and we can all sit down and have a little powwow about cannabis, cannabossum, and its healing ways, dating back at least 2800 years to Tell Arad and Jerusalem, and the holy anointing oil recipe being passed down to Moses. But again, dating back 8,000 years to medical oriental journals, and then dating back even 30,000 years as our bodies have evolved to receive this plant in the form of cannabinoids. So, cool stuff. I hope you enjoyed this conversation. It's one of my absolute favorites. I hope I educated you, I hope I taught you something, I hope you learned something, and I hope you take this information and you do with it what you will to help your health, restore your health, get back to eating fruits and veggies, organic fruits and veggies, no glyphosate, none of that roundup. The best thing you can do to have healthy food is to have a really great soil in your own backyard. and grow your own food. We as Americans, a generation or two ago, about 50% of Americans grew their own food. We actually ate our own gardens, and now it's less than 1% here in 2025. So we need to get back to growing our own food, having a really healthy microbiome, really healthy organic soil, sustainable practices of growing, and that way, You know, and have your own chickens. You know what I mean? The cost of eggs these days. You want to get around all these crazy cost of living food prices and things like that. It is February 2025. It's perfect time. Spring is around the corner. Start planning your victory gardens. That's what they used to call it back in World War II when you would grow your own food. And grow your own food. Healthy, organic soil and We have some of the, on our YouTube channels, if you go to The Miracle Plant or 101 Hemp, 101 CBD, you can see some of the, we even teach you how to grow hemp, cannabis, cannabossum, whatever you want to call it in your own backyard. So there it is, one of my absolute favorite conversations, favorite topics to talk about, cannabossum, cannabis, hemp, whatever you want to call it, The Miracle Plant. So on the count of three, we say heal the world, because that was the mission that we started many years ago, going on 10 years now. to reach a billion people about the power of this miracle plant, especially in the raw form. So we're going to say, heal the world, get out there and do it. Hope you learned something today. Hope you can pass this on to somebody. So when you or a loved one find yourself in need of healing, that you can find this miracle plant and it can help you just like it's helped me, my family, and so many others. So on the count of three, let's say, heal the world. Here we go. One, two, three. Heal the world! Thanks for swinging by the Roots to Riches podcast.
