Episode Notes

From Perfectionism to Progress: Embracing Imperfect Action

Welcome back to another episode of Roots to Riches, where natural healing meets unstoppable success. I'm your host, Justin Benton, and today I wanted to share a special segment from our Grateful Share Monday meetings, which we hold every Monday for the Miracle Plant community.

In this episode, I delve into a conversation with a wonderful woman named Laura, who has been conducting beach yoga sessions for about seven years. I originally encouraged her to start these sessions and even sponsored her for many years. Recently, I've been motivating her to record her sessions and share them on YouTube, despite her initial resistance and feelings of imperfection.

During our chat, I emphasized the importance of taking imperfect action and the difference between wisdom and knowledge. True wisdom comes from doing, not just knowing. I shared insights from my friend Russell's podcast journey, highlighting how he found his voice after many episodes and how no one is perfect at the start.

I also discussed the concept of emotional sobriety, which involves maintaining control over one's emotions regardless of external circumstances. I shared my commitment to journaling as a method to achieve this state and maintain a grateful and joyous mindset.

Throughout the episode, I aimed to inspire and motivate listeners to take action, share their unique gifts, and not let perfectionism hold them back. Whether it's through personal development, health, wealth, or relationships, the key is to keep pushing forward and sharing what we know to help others.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let's continue to unlock ancient wisdom to boost our health and wealth, and together, we can transform our lives and the world around us.

Stay tuned for more insights and inspiration in the next episode of Roots to Riches.

Through experience is the only way that we'll get better at anything. There is no intellectual way of getting better at things. Because then you get stuck in the growth loop where you're constantly learning and learning and learning and learning and ever doing and doing and doing and doing. So true knowledge comes, there's a difference between wisdom and knowledge, right? And that true wisdom doesn't come from knowing, it comes from doing. So anyways, there's my thoughts for you. We all have that. Welcome to Roots to Riches, where natural healing meets unstoppable success. Hi, I'm Justin Benton, your guide to unlocking ancient wisdom to boost your health and your wealth. Together, we'll explore these lost secrets that can transform our lives and the world around us. Let's get started. Welcome back for another episode of Roots to Riches. I'm your host, Justin Benton. And I wanted to share a fun conversation. Every Monday for the Miracle Plant, we have our Grateful Share Monday meetings. And every once in a while, I clip out a little something from there and share it. And today I'm going to do that. So this is a portion of our Grateful Share meeting. And You know, one of the things that I had learned, the insights that I had learned using AI was, you know, telling me that I was just really good at inspiring and motivating people. And on this call, you'll hear me chat with a wonderful woman named Laura. and she does a beach yoga on the beach once or twice a week and has been doing so for about seven years or so and it was actually my idea to have her do that and we sponsored her for many years and and she does it and I've been trying to encourage her to not be perfect and take imperfect action and just hit record and record the beach yoga she's doing on the beach when there's people there that are doing it with her. And then she could record it and then put it on her YouTube channel. And she was running into some resistance and stopped doing it. for whatever reason it was. And so you're gonna hear my conversation with her following up saying, hey, have you continued to hit play or record on the beach? And you'll hear my… My motivation, I also like to point out that I asked before I shared, which I think is great for everyone to try as a method. Before you share your opinion, ask for permission to share it. That way it's more well-received. And sometimes people might say, no, I don't really want to hear it. And you save each other both You save each other energy and frustration on both parts. So anyways, hope you enjoy this. And like I said, I'm looking forward to sharing different insights, whether it's me helping motivate and inspire people or whether it's personal development or roads to riches when it comes to abundant lifestyle, whether it's health, wealth, the relationships, or of course, that great old miracle plan, Raw CVDA on a mission to heal the world and reach a billion people. by 2025, which is here. So, uh, quick heal the world out there, and then we're gonna jump into this episode. One, two, three. Heal the world! All right. Hope you enjoy this. Are you still hitting play on the beach, recording your beach yoga?

undefined: I haven't been the last couple of weeks. Uh… Yeah, I did for the first. I did have for a couple, and I… Yeah. I just haven't… since then I, you know, I still, I still notice I don't feel as relaxed and I don't, it just, I don't feel as in the flow when I'm recording it. So I don't know. I don't know. I'm, Yeah, that's yeah. Anyway, that's that's my answer right now.

undefined: Well, that's your it's it's totally up to you. And if you want, I can give you my opinion on what I think might help you get over that. But obviously honor your, your intuition, but I do have an idea for you.

undefined: Okay, I'm curious. I'm curious. Thank you. I appreciate you asking. And I am I am very, I'm very I'm curious. Yeah.

undefined: Yeah. Well, so, um, It's I was just listening to a podcast this morning. And it's my, my buddy Russell. And he, he started his podcast at a real low life, real low, real low point in his life. And he just felt a calling, you know, an intuition, calling to contribution, is what he calls it. And so he just started recording. And his buddy, Steve Larson, who I know, he's a another cool guy, he said, hey man, I was listening to your podcasts. And it's funny, like the first 40 or so, like it didn't really resonate, didn't really hit, but somewhere around 40 or 45, you found your voice, you found your rhythm. And then that was you. And then they say, no one's watching in the beginning. So we're all stink in the beginning. So it's whether we're uncomfortable or judgment of other people think or perfectionism or whatever it is, But that's the opportunity for us to find our voice and find our rhythm. And through, through experience is the only way that we'll get better at anything. There is no intellectual way of getting better at things. Because then you get stuck in the growth loop where you're constantly learning and learning and learning and learning and never doing and doing and doing and doing. So true knowledge comes, there's a difference between wisdom and knowledge, right? And that true wisdom doesn't come from knowing, it comes from doing. So anyways, there's my thoughts for you. We all have that anxiety or mental things, but ultimately at the end of the day, what I would ask myself is, am I doing this for me to make me feel better? Is this for me or is this for others that I can help? And if it's for others and you know what you have can help others with what they're struggling with, then I believe, this is my belief, that we have a moral obligation to share what we know that can help other people with them. Because it's not about me, it's about them. And that's another trick for you not to get nervous on stage or hitting record, is to stop thinking about yourself. I'm speaking in general, not just to you. Stop thinking about yourself. The nerves and the anxiousness comes from you worrying about what others think. versus start focusing on them. What do they need? What's going to support them? And that will get you through the anxiety or the stress or the nervousness or whatever it is. If you're mindful of what's going to help them, then good things will come from that. There you go.

undefined: Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, thinking about that shift in perspective is, you bet.

undefined: Well, I'm just a creator.

undefined: Yeah.

undefined: And I'm hanging around creators. And I just know what you're doing is wonderful. Everyone knows it. And I feel that I feel you're, you know, I identify with you, in the sense that, like, you've got this great gift that you have put how many years of your life into this perfecting this? How many would you say? How long have you been doing that?

undefined: Uh, I mean a spinach or at least like 20 years.

undefined: Okay. So it says we only need to take 10 years to become an expert, a genius at anything, do something for 10 years and you are considered a genius. So you've done it for 20. So you have 20 years. You've probably forgotten more about yoga and what you do than I than I'll ever know. And for you not to be able to pass that on, wouldn't be cool. It's like you have this, you've put 20 years of your life, half of your life has been put into this. And I always think about that movie Lucy, and it's like, remember she took all those like C4 or whatever it was that, like that human growth hormone when a baby's being created, and it was synthetic. And she was unlocking 100% of her brain. And she knew she wasn't going to be around very much longer because it was just too rapid, too fast. And so she was going to be gone in like a day. But she was unlocking full potential of her brain, 100%. So she could control other people's body movements and things. And she said, well, talking to the professor, who was Morgan Freeman, And she said, well, what should I do? She says, well, as every cell should do, what a cell does is that it transmits the data from one cell to the next cell before it passes. And so again, I'm just giving you all the creator insights that I've seen. And I just, and again, these are just, it's part of what drives me. So it's like, you know, I've spent 20 years on sales and marketing. I spent 20 years on building people up, motivating people, helping people, seeing things, working on myself. And so like right now, I am sharing with you one-on-one what I believe can help you. But when you push record on a YouTube video, then that could help literally billions of people and an extra cherry on top. It can be your legacy. I have 275 podcasts. My mom was on a bunch of them. But I know when I'm no longer here that my kids and my great grandkids and everyone else down the line can listen or just people that want to learn my insights. It will always be there. And it's better to look bad and learn the process in the beginning, because then you can share it with other people. And they can be like, oh my gosh, look. Like Russell does it all the time. He shows his opening videos of him presenting. He's this little dorky wrestling kid in college. It's horrible. He's so nervous. He's so awkward. It's so embarrassing. But he has it, and he shares it to show what's possible. And that even someone who's made $3 million on stage in 90 minutes, closing one to many started looking awkward and feeling weird and having horrible anxiety is bad as it gets. And he continued to push record. And 20 years later, he's now, you know, commanding a hundred thousand dollars a day to meet with him. You know, uh, he does a product launch. It's always a million dollars or more. in his pocket. And it's all because he kept hitting record. So anyways, I'm passionate about it. I'm not saying you need to keep hitting hitting record Laura. It's just That's what I've learned is the secret is to keep hitting record and you can throw it away, right? It's even like when you write those letters, you're mad about something and you write a big letter and you never send it. Sometimes it's just the doing it is what gets it out and helps. And if you're, you know, feeling awkward or, or, or it's like, oh, this isn't as authentic. I'm thinking about the camera. I bet you a million people have had the same thoughts. But they knew that they were there to serve somebody, that it wasn't about them, it wasn't about their awkward feeling. It was about, can I actually help someone? Will one person be able to watch this video in a year from now, 10 years from now? And it will help them alleviate stress or pain in their life. And if it's gonna help one person, do I owe it to them to pass this information on to them. So anyways, as you can tell, one of my callings is to motivate people. So I'm doing what I do. You do what you need to do.

undefined: Yeah, this is, this is very motivating and it's helpful to remember or to hear that for the first number of videos, however many, that probably no one's even watching anyway. And I love as a thinking, listening to what you're saying about Russell, I love watching people's journey from when they were beginning and messing up and letting themselves be seen as being messy. And I love watching that. And anyway, so anyway, everything you're saying is, feeling very uplifting and supportive and motivating. So thank you. Thank you very much.

undefined: You bet. And I just, and I agree with you too. It's like, that's the rawness, right? That's one of the things that attracted me to him was because he's so vulnerable and it's just raw and it's just real. You know, he had a podcast recently where it's just like, he just said, Hey, this is what's going on with my kid. He dropped out of school. I don't know how, I don't know. He disappeared for two months. You know, I don't know what to do. My last couple of businesses totally flopped. You know, and just, you know, and I know Brené Brown talks a lot about it, about vulnerability, but really I was getting back to what your point was, which is just raw, just raw. This is who I am. And you want to talk about empowering yourself not to give a crap about what someone else thinks. Because at the end of the day, it has nothing to do with you. Their opinion of you has zero to do with you. And if they haven't mentally matured or have the emotional intelligence to recognize that they're just projecting the stories they tell themselves and their heads upon you. And like when you talk about being someone different, like God bless you. Oh my gosh, someone different. You're tired of hearing the same stuff, the same crap. I've already learned it all. that I've learned and what I've learned. If you want to, if you, you know, I want to see, you know, diversity. I want to see perspectives that I want to learn something new and you with a new voice or something that someone that's different. And then again, you don't have to necessarily speak to me, but there are thousands upon thousands, you know, likely more women than men, but there are thousands upon thousands of people that would need you period. You know, and now we live in a day and age with technology that, you know, it's like YouTube is the new TV and we can start our own channel, our own, our own broadcasting network every day. You know, I launched two new YouTube channels this year. Um, and I, you know, part of it is, you know, my own stuff. Like I, I feel bad that I'm not doing as much as I want to do there, which is publishing one video per week. Um, but I know that's what I need to do. And so that makes me feel bad, which is okay. You know, and when I can schedule that time in there to do it, then I will do it. And I can transition to my grateful share too is like, as I was getting ready for this, again, I just love chat GPT. It's just think of it like Google or YouTube. It's just the latest technology that changes people's lives. And it changed mine. And I was talking to it. about some things and one of the key words that I've come across recently that really resonated with me is what's called emotional sobriety. And it's really the act of staying in check. So it's another word of being in control of your emotions, not letting external things control your emotional state. So being inner, staying inner, and being able to have, you know, to be happy, really, and joyous. And one of the things that I was working on with ChatGVT was I was like, you know, what are the ways to maintain or have, to continue to have emotional sobriety, to not let external things affect my attitude? And one of them that I, and a lot of them I already do, which is great. Um, well, one of them was that I haven't been doing is journaling and I have done it before and I like it. I just haven't made it a part of my morning routine. So I committed to myself this morning. I'm like, okay, I need to journal. I need to bring that back. Um, I don't know what the hangup is on it and I don't care what it is, but I need to institute that into my morning routine. And so starting today, I'm going to do it. And the plan is to do it every day. and I'll do the best I can. But again, it's just like, what are these actions that I can do that can help me have true emotional sobriety? And to me, like a real emotional sobriety, I think of like a monk. And they've done studies on these guys with their alpha brainwaves and how they can get to this point where they can get into this alpha state like in a second, snap of a finger. They can get completely centered and be completely in this grateful state, which is why here we are doing a Grateful Share. Why do we do a Grateful Share? Why am I doing a Grateful Share? Why am I a part of the Grateful Share? One might argue it's for me. I don't necessarily know if that's true. I know that it's something that works and I'm happy and feel obligated to give it for us here. And we've done it for how many years? Seven or eight years. And you know, so it's 2025, so it's actually longer than that, probably going on eight years now. And so it's something that works. And so for me, I am on this constant hunt for things that are going to keep me and allow me to stay into a state of gratefulness and joy and happiness, regardless of what goes on around me. And I'm a forever student. And if someone has figured something out, I want to learn it. I want to internalize it. I want to make it mine. I want to do it. And I want to share it. Because that's just who I am. And I don't even need to know why I'm that way, but that's just who I am. So on this Grateful Monday, Cher, I'm grateful that I'm a Forever student and that I get to Use technology to help me uncover things that are going to help me be in my optimal state, which is gratefulness and joy and happiness, regardless of what's going on around me. Because the only thing I can control, I cannot control other people. I cannot control the environment. I cannot control the government. I cannot control anything other than my response to what happens around me. And if I don't like the way that I'm feeling, then I need to work on it. I need to find a way to get back into a better state. And I work on that every day. And I will continue to work on it every day. And so my grateful share for you is I'm gonna see how journaling goes. And that's all I got. Who wants to go next?

: This is just really inspiring. I keep sitting here thinking about that. I really like the idea that kind of like a cell or whatever that needs to pass on what it's learned or whatever before it goes away. And I spent my life learning and I consider myself pretty intelligent and I have this vast amount of information and insights and everything I've created. But they're not going to do me any good if I don't share them. And so that's I kind of like you would tell Laura, even though it's not perfect, then just do it anyway. And I'm such a perfectionist and I've allowed that often to stop me. Like I read other people's books and things like these people to me are sharing like, I mean, really basic insights, but they've learned how to share it nicely and make big money from it and stuff. And so it's kind of frustrating, but then the point is they are braver than I am. They went and did it and I didn't. And so me trying to have the ultimate perfect thing to share has just kept me from sharing. And so I shared for years through my job working with people and helping people. But it's silly, all the things I've learned and my insights and the skills I've developed and like even I was just telling Justin I hadn't been feeling good the last week. And I was supposed to go hear this jazz singer last night with a new friend after we went to dinner. And I called her to say, I just didn't think I was going to come because I'd had this super low-grade fever that came and went and kind of congestion. She goes, oh my gosh, we all have it. She goes, several of my friends are in the hospital with it. And then I'm just chuckling because I just took all my herbs and drank tons of my tea. My infection went away very quickly. I just still had kind of a lingering nasal congestion or whatever. But just the fact that I had those skills that other people should be aware of, that you don't have to do that, that you don't all have to end up in the hospital taking drugs and everything for simple diseases that are going around. So again, to me, I'm starting to feel more aware of that pressure. And I like the idea too, Justin, talking about how many episodes do you record or say before you find your authentic voice and before you learn to fine tune it. And so Laura, the same with you too, pretty soon you'll totally forget the camera's there. And then some people love the camera and kind of learn to remember, oh, I'm recording this. I should put my best foot forward or whatever. So some people are motivated. But you have such unique insight, Laura, and your ability to kind of dig deep into yourself and understand the nuances of yourself and awareness is very unique. And so I truly hope you keep recording. I was going to ask you, do you ever have any options for an indoor site? Like I hear there's going to be a bunch of rain when I come out.

undefined: I don't, I don't right now. And thank you so much for, for what you said. That means a lot to me. I don't currently have an indoor site.

: Because the beach is like amazing. But yeah, if there is weather, sometimes I just thinking about that or whatever. If there are some, this is my own personal thing, like I really wanted to do a lot of yoga with Laura while I was here. Well, I was there. And then another thing too I always try to decide, just listen to you talk this morning, Justin. So I have family here I just love dearly and especially my grandkids. But then, that's wonderful but it's not helping me move forward as a human, I mean, in some senses. And so I totally enjoy going to all the events like I do when I come out and hang out with your kids and everything. But that's wonderful. And for some people, just being a grandmother who goes to things is all they accomplish. But I've always felt since I was very young that I had a lot more to share and a pretty unique perspective and insight or ability to see insights. And so whenever I hear these meetings or whatever, and I hear you talk, it's, oh my God, yes. And so I'm motivated, but sadly you hear it once a week and then it wears off. And so that's another reason I'm excited to come out to California and hopefully get some more motivation to continue. what I'm doing, but just in general, I'm just so grateful that I have the life I have. I mean, I look around the world at all the crazy things going on, and I have a nice place to live, and I have wonderful family, and I have the ability to buy all the healthy foods, and I have the ability to be online and have communication to learn new things, and we are living in a time where we have more access to information and ways to analyze it than at any time in human history, as long as we make sure we're using it for the good. And basically, I'm just grateful I get to come out to California again. I hear it's going to be raining a bit, which is a total blessing for you guys. So anyway, I will see you all. I'll be out there tomorrow night.
